SNAP Meeting Notes…

Copyright John Guider

It was a dark and stormy night…and many more people than expected braved the elements to see John Guider’s photographs and to hear his discussion of the last leg of his “Great Loop” voyage. Thanks, John…great presentation (with apologies for the projector SNAFU).

Next Meeting

Our March meeting will NOT be March 22 at Dury’s.
Instead we will be taking a field trip to the Frist Center for the Visual Arts for a new photography exhibit entitled “The Power of Pictures: Early Soviet Photography and Film”. Susan Striepe, a new SNAP member, is a docent at the Frist and will lead a personalized tour for us. First, we will attend the curator’s presentation, “Broken Promises: Soviet Photography in the Age of Stalin” and after the tour, we plan to meet and discuss the exhibit.

So mark your SNAP calendars for MARCH 11, 6:30pm at the Frist Center. Non-Frist members will have to pay an admission fee, but I will inquire about a group rate and let everyone know.

Exhibits

Emily Passino and Wesley Duffee-Braun discussed plans for up-coming Provence shows. They expect to have quarterly exhibits which are themed and judged, with the judge also presenting a critique. Their first effort will have the theme of “Patterns” and will be judged by Noah Saterstrom. Watch for a “Call for Entries” which will detail submission and hanging specifics to appear soon.
I am pleased to announce that Paul Poycarou, Editor of NasvilleArts Magazine, has agreed to judge our annual Gordon JCC exhibit. Watch for a “Call for Entries” which will detail submission and hanging specifics. Here is the timeline:
  • Deadline for submission – April 26
  • Judging – May 1 -7
  • Hang show at JCC – May 31
  • Reception at JCC – June 8 (?)
  • Critique – June 28
