SNAP Notes…

June is becoming a great month for SNAP! It began with hanging our 5th Annual Juried Exhibition at Gordon Jewish Community Center along with the revival of our “Push-Pin” show in the small gallery. Many thanks to Paul Polycarpou for judging the submissions, to Carrie Mills for curating and to Kay Ramming and Denny Adcock for organizing the Push-Pin show. Many thanks also go to David Morel for his yoeman efforts with graphics and promotion, and to Emily Passino  and Wesley Duffee-Brown for their organizational work and co-ordination of the submission process.

There followed what I thought was our highly successful  reception on June 8, which drew attendees from  the Nashville area photography community in addition to our membership. Thanks again to Carrie and JCC for providing food and beverages and a tip of the hat to all who donated wine for the event.

The exhibits wrap up with a critique by our juror, NashvilleArts publisher Paul Polycarpou. He will be evaluating the hanging works in the GJCC gallery starting at 6:30 on June 28. This is our regular SNAP meeting for July, so WE WILL NOT MEET AT DURY’S ON TUESDAY THE 28TH. This will be an excellent opportunity for all of us to gain some insight into the process of an important publisher/juror in selecting prints, as well as a review of the professional quality photography in the exhibit.

CALL FOR SUBMISSIONS  for the next Provence exhibition has gone out! In association with the Belcourt Theatre, and to celebrate their re-opening, the theme of this show is “Cinema”. Our juror is Zack Hall, Programming and Education Associate for the Belcourt. The deadline for submitting up to four images is July 9th. Emily and Wesley have put together another great opportunity to show our work with the help of an important and respected juror. Here are the details:

Theme: Photographs “inspired by the cinema”. Let your imagination roll with this one. Images might be about: movie goers, movie houses, actors, sets, scenes and the like. You might set out with the intention of shooting something inspired by a movie. Or, you might scroll through your portfolio and find images that you’ve already captured which are related to movies, movie themes, moods, scenes, messages, etc, etc.

Juror: The juror for this exhibit will be Zack Hall, not only the Programming and Education Associate for the Belcourt, but a fabulous artist himself. He is participating in the upcoming Oz Modular Art Pods (https://modularartpods.wordpress.com/2015/12/28/modular-art-pods-at-oz-announces-participating-artists/) June 21-25th. For a taste of his work see http://zackhalledits.tumblr.com/.
