Our next exhibition, “Inspired by the Cinema”, is ready for installation at Provence! The block information for those participating is due TODAY, so if you are a procrastinator, you only have a few hours to whip up an excuse J Tomorrow, Monday, is the day for taking down photographs in the “Patterns” Exhibit and hanging the “Cinema” pictures. Wesley will be there 1:00 – 6:00 and I plan to be there to help…If you would like to assist as well for all or part of that time, please drop in.
Artist’s Reception is Tuesday, August 9, 5:00 – 7:00 pm. Emily has called for volunteers to help promote both the show and reception on social media and by designing and/or producing cards, lobby fliers and posters (for the Belcourt Theatre), etc. Also, donations of wine (a couple of boxes), plastic cups and name tags will be greatly appreciated.
Our August meeting will NOT be at Dury’s … instead, we will be holding a Juror’s Critique on August 23, 5:30 – 7:00 at Provence. This time, we have asked Zak, our judge, to specifically discuss each piece as well as to make some general statements about pictures he did not select.
At our July meeting, Emily Passino discussed SNAP’s Juror Criteria. Emily, Wesley and “the Gray Beards” exchanged emails on this topic and came to the following conclusion: Jurors will be asked to rank all submissions, from 1 to ___, with the cut-off for accepting works at the space available. We felt that being an “artistic society”, we should rely completely on the selections of our guest judges. Having said so, we firmly believe the membership should be engaged in this kind of decision, so, If you have a view of this policy you would like to have discussed, please contact me, Emily or Wesley and we will schedule monthly meeting time for a general discussion.
Also at the July meeting we recognized several members. Monte Arnold and Bill Lund; both have sold photographs from the “Patterns” Exhibit. (Please see the attachment). In addition Richard Barrow has a piece in “America’s Parks: A Centennial Celebration” at the Sangre de Cristo Arts and Conference Center, Pueble, CO (www.sdc-arts.org) AND has been chosen to hang a show at Nashville International Airport next year. Finally, Jerry Atnip and Jane Vickers participated in DiaLoGue / Manipulated Photography at the David Lusk Gallery (http://www.davidluskgallery.com/). Way to go, guys! If you have any photographic accomplishments to share with us, please let me know for inclusión in our meetings and newsletter.

Thanks to SNAP member Wendy Whittmore for her interesting (and excellent) presentation on Drone Photography. She discussed a number of practical and regulatory concerns when flying drones for both commercial and private use. Unfortunately, she was not able to provide a demonstration due to aerial conditions around Dury’s, BUT, she will plan a demonstration for those who are interested at a later date. If you are interested, please contact her at Aerial Innovations of TN (www.flytenn.com/)
