March Meeting at the Frist…

IMPORTANT REMINDER: The March meeting of S.N.A.P. is a field trip to the Frist Center for a tour of the Irving Penn exhibit. We will NOT meet at Dury’s on Tuesday. Instead, we will assemble near the information booth in the Frist no later than 6:45 pm on the evening of March 30. The cost for the tour will be $10.00 ($9.00 for seniors) for non-Frist members. Parking is separate.

So far, only six people plus myself have confirmed for this event, but I expect we will have the minimum necessary for our scheduled tour. Please check in with me so I can collect the fee from non-Frist members and to make sure of our number for our total group.

I have heard this is an excellent exhibit and I’m looking forward to seeing all of you then.

SNAP Notes…

Hi, SNAPpers! I hope everyone is taking advantage of the spring-like weather to get out and shoot. At our last meeting Byron Jorjorian spoke on his approach to photographing nature in all its forms. Thanks, Byron for a great presentation.

Our March meeting should be a real treat…a field trip to the Frist Center for the Visual Arts to see the Irving Penn exhibit. Unfortunately our member docent, Susan Striepe, is in the process of completing her thesis and is not working with the Frist center this semester. That means I will be scheduling the tour and handling the finances (Oh, boy!).

November SNAP Notes…

What a lovely, if dry, Fall this has been! Perfect weather for photography…hope everyone has been able to take advantage and shot some more great art! Speaking of ‘Art’, Emily, Wesley and David have been busy organizing our next Provence exhibit (yes, it’s that time already). Click here for the essential information you need, but hurry, time is short.

Long Exposures:

If you missed last month’s SNAP meeting, you missed an excellent presentation about “slow shutter”, aka “long exposure” photography. Denny Adcock and and Stanton Tubb discussed techniques and showed some of their outstanding work. Thanks guys for a great discussion. For those encouraged to try (or continue) with this form of photography, I am also posting two articles and a guide as separate PDF files.

Meeting Tomorrow, Exhibit take down…

Tomorrow, Tuesday, June 28 is Paul Polycarpou’s critique of the SNAP 5th Annual Juried Exhibition. We will NOT be meeting at Dury’s, our usual meeting place, but at Gordon JCC and Paul will review the prints as they hang. This should be an informative and interesting critique by one of Nashville’s leading fine art personalities.

Please see the attachment for details.

Hello All Snap Push Pin Artist,

Take down for the Push Pin Show and the Snap JCC Show is scheduled for Thursday, June 30th, however Carrie at the JCC has told me if you’re coming to the Snap June meeting at the JCC on Tuesday, June 28th you may, after the meeting take down your art work.  Otherwise or if you’re not able to make the meeting and discussion about the show you will need to pick up your pieces on Thursday.

Thank you all that were part of both shows, yet another great Snap exhibit at the JCC!

SNAP Notes…

Our 5th Annual Juried Exhibition and our Push-Pin Show are both up at Gordon JCC and they look great! Thanks to all the photographers who participated, and especially to those who helped hang the shows. A special “Tip of the Hat” goes to Kay and Denny for their work in getting the Push-Pin show organized and hung. The shows will be up until the end of the month. Don’t forget to visit both galleries to see the shows.

Our next  SNAP meeting on June 28 will assemble at the JCC at 6:30 where our juror for the exhibition, PAUL POLYCARPOU, will conduct a critique of the work. Paul is always an entertaining, as well as a highly knowledgeable, presenter. This critique should be of interest, not only to the participants, but to all Nashville area photographers.

That’s about all for now. Remember, if you are in an exhibition, been accepted for publication or have any photography related news, please let me know so I can include it in this email and on our web site.

It was a dark and stormy night…and many more people than expected braved the elements to see John Guider’s photographs and to hear his discussion of the last leg of his “Great Loop” voyage. Thanks, John…great presentation (with apologies for the projector SNAFU).

President’s Update…

February Meeting: Dury’s, Tuesday February 23rd, 6:30 pm. We are honored to have as our (return) speaker, John Guider. John is a world class photographer and a man I would call an adventurer. Several years ago, John set himself the goal of sailing “The Great Loop”, beginning and ending at his back door on the Harpeth River. And, just to make things interesting, he decided to build his own sailboat for the 5500 mile voyage. John will present his photographs and center his discussion on the final leg of his journey. http://johnguider.com/Guider_TheGreatLoop.pdf
